HPV vaccination in Dormagen
HPV vaccination is one of the most effective preventions against cervical cancer and other HPV-related tumors. We vaccinate girls in the STIKO age window as well as adult women who want to catch up on their vaccination status — well informed, with clear answers to common questions.
Human papillomaviruses (HPV) are the main cause of cervical cancer and contribute to other cancers. HPV vaccination specifically protects against the most dangerous virus types. We offer it in our practice – for girls from age 9, for young women within the STIKO recommendation, and on request for adult women beyond that.
HPV vaccination for women: make an informed decision
Many widespread assumptions circulate around HPV vaccination: "It's only for teenagers." "Once you're 18, insurance won't pay." "If I've had contact already, there's no point." Reality is more nuanced — and the decision belongs in your hands.
We explain the current evidence: for whom the vaccine works most effectively, what it can and cannot do. So you can decide well informed.
How HPV vaccination works in our practice
HPV vaccination is straightforward. A typical pathway:
- Counsel appointment. We discuss your background, prior vaccinations, your wishes and questions. We explain the current schedule (2 or 3 doses depending on age) and clarify cost coverage.
- First dose. Intramuscular injection in the upper arm. Brief post-observation in the practice.
- Second and, if needed, third dose. Depending on schedule after 1–2 and 6 months. We actively remind you of follow-up appointments.
Alongside HPV vaccination we also offer other common vaccinations. Please let us know.
HPV vaccination for adults and cervical cancer prevention
Key facts we are happy to discuss in detail:
- STIKO recommendation: girls and boys age 9 to 14 (main recommended age, 2 doses at least 5 months apart). Catch-up vaccination is explicitly recommended up to age 18 (then 3 doses).
- HPV vaccination for adults: STIKO formally recommends up to 17; the license extends well into adulthood. Many women benefit beyond that age, especially if they have not yet been exposed to all relevant HPV types. We clarify individually.
- What the vaccine achieves: protection against the most important cancer-causing HPV types, especially HPV 16 and 18, which cause the majority of cervical cancers. Plus protection against certain genital wart types.
- What the vaccine does not replace: full protection against all HPV types. The pap-based cancer screening remains important – see our cancer screening.
Alongside HPV vaccination we also offer other common vaccinations. Please let us know. We follow current STIKO guidance.
Prevention is quiet. It prevents something you will never see – and that is exactly what makes it valuable.
When is the right time for HPV vaccination?
STIKO recommends vaccination ideally before first sexual intercourse – meaning between 9 and 14. In this window the vaccine works most reliably and two doses are enough.
But: the vaccine stays meaningful later, too. Many young adults catch up. Women over 18 can decide individually whether a late vaccination fits – for example:
- if you have never been vaccinated and are entering a new life phase,
- if you want to reinforce your prevention after an abnormal cytology result,
- if you simply want better protection against infection.
We advise individually on what makes sense in your current life stage.
