Prenatal care is far more than a checklist in your Mutterpass. It is the time when you should feel that someone is thinking with you – medically precisely and personally engaged. You get both here under one roof, from the earliest weeks of pregnancy to the postnatal check-up.

Pregnancy care in Dormagen: the calm your pregnancy deserves

Many women come into their first prenatal appointment with a mix of joy and uncertainty. "Is everything okay? Am I feeling enough? Was that normal?" – these questions belong here. Even when a pregnancy is medically unremarkable, questions remain — and there is room for them at every prenatal visit.

Our pregnancy care is built around one thing: that you leave each appointment a little calmer than you arrived. We explain what we see, take your concerns seriously, and put findings into context. You should feel accompanied – not processed, not lectured.

What happens in an antenatal visit – from Mutterpass to CTG

A prenatal appointment typically has three parts:

  • Conversation and Mutterpass. At the first appointment we issue the Mutterpass – your most important document throughout the pregnancy. At every follow-up we record findings, check in on how you are doing, and work through anything that has been on your mind since the last visit.
  • Examination, ultrasound, CTG if needed. We check blood pressure, urine and weight, palpate the uterus and the baby's position, perform ultrasound at the scheduled points and – from around 30 weeks – a CTG (contraction and heart-rate trace) when indicated.
  • Interpretation and next steps. Lab results, ultrasound and your own observations are put into one picture. We say clearly what is normal, what we will keep watching, and when the next appointment should be.

Care according to Mutterschaftsrichtlinien – plus our extra: kinesiology taping

Medically we follow the German maternity guidelines (Mutterschaftsrichtlinien). That means: the three standard ultrasounds (around 10, 20 and 30 weeks), regular prenatal visits every four weeks until 32 weeks and every two weeks thereafter, the standard lab work-up (blood group, antibody screen, infection serology including rubella, HIV, hepatitis B, syphilis, chlamydia, urine status) and a diabetes screen between weeks 24 and 28.

On top of the statutory care, we offer kinesiology taping – a gentle, drug-free addition that many pregnant women find genuinely helpful for typical complaints such as lower-back or abdominal pain or a feeling of pressure in the abdomen. The elastic tapes support without restricting your movement. We apply them in your regular prenatal appointment when useful. Taping is a self-pay service.

For high-risk pregnancies, on request, we offer an extended glucose tolerance test as early as around the 12th week of pregnancy as an individual health service.

What we deliberately do not offer and where we refer you:

  • First-trimester screening (NT measurement). If you would like an extended risk assessment between weeks 11 and 14, we refer you to a specialized prenatal center in Düsseldorf or Cologne.
  • NIPT (non-invasive prenatal test). We do not currently offer NIPT counseling. For the actual counseling and test we refer you to a specialized prenatal center in Düsseldorf or Cologne.
  • Acupuncture. Acupuncture for birth preparation is not part of our range of services. For this we are happy to recommend a midwife or a specialized practice of your choice.
Good prenatal care is not the one with the most measurements — it is the one where even your quiet questions have a place.

When is the right time for the first prenatal appointment?

Once your pregnancy test is positive, you can book a first appointment. Medically the first visit usually makes sense from around 6 to 8 weeks of pregnancy – by then, the pregnancy can be confirmed reliably.

If you have pain, bleeding or strong symptoms, do not wait for the regular appointment. Call us – we will find a short-notice slot or send you to the right place.

If you are not pregnant yet but planning, we are also happy to accompany you: with a pre-conception consultation, a check of important vaccinations (for example rubella, varicella) and a calm review of your starting point.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about prenatal care

As soon as your pregnancy test is positive, you can book an appointment. The first ultrasound is usually most informative between weeks 6 and 8, when a reliable heartbeat becomes visible. If you experience pain, bleeding or have a high-risk pregnancy, come earlier – just call us and we will find a slot.

We issue the Mutterpass at your first prenatal appointment, once the pregnancy has been confirmed. All important findings are recorded there: blood group, antibody screen, infection serology, blood pressure, ultrasound results, CTG findings and weight. It is your companion document through pregnancy – please bring it to every appointment and to the birth.

All services according to the Mutterschaftsrichtlinien are covered: the regular prenatal visits, the three standard ultrasounds, blood and urine checks, the diabetes screen, and CTG when medically indicated. Additional services (for example more frequent ultrasounds without medical need) are IGeL services and are discussed transparently beforehand. For high-risk pregnancies, on request, we additionally offer an extended glucose tolerance test as early as around the 12th week of pregnancy as an individual health service.

We do not currently carry out either of these examinations ourselves. For first-trimester screening (NT measurement) and for NIPT counseling we refer you to colleagues who perform them.

Acupuncture is not part of our services. For birth preparation we are happy to recommend a midwife. As a gentle support within the prenatal visits we offer kinesiology taping, for example for lower-back or abdominal pain.

Yes. We offer kinesiology taping for typical pregnancy complaints such as lower-back pain, abdominal pain or a feeling of pressure in the abdomen. The elastic tapes work without medication and without restricting your movement. Taping is a self-pay service and is applied within your regular prenatal appointment when useful.
