Teen gynecology consultation in Dormagen

A first gynecologist visit does not have to be a big step. In our teen gynecology consultation we talk on eye level about cycle, contraception and physical changes — without any examination if you prefer.

Elisa Mahlberg, gynecologist in Dormagen – teen gynecology consultation

The teen gynecology consultation is for young patients with questions about cycle, contraception or physical changes — and for anyone who is thinking about a first gynecologist visit. Information and a clear placement of your situation are at the center. A companion is always welcome.

Your first gynecologist visit — calm and without pressure

Many young patients arrive at their first gynecologist appointment with mixed feelings. Uncertainty, curiosity, sometimes worry about an examination — all of that is normal. In our teen gynecology consultation, the conversation comes first. You decide what to bring up and how far you want to go.

A physical examination is not required at the first visit. If you would just like to talk — about your cycle, about contraception, about changes you are noticing — that is exactly right.

How a teen gynecology appointment with Elisa Mahlberg works

A teen gynecology appointment typically runs as follows:

  • Conversation. We get to know each other and talk through your topics — cycle, contraception, physical changes, sex-education questions. You set the pace.
  • Companion. You are welcome to bring a companion — into the practice and, if you wish, into the treatment room as well.
  • Examination — only if you want one. A physical examination is performed only if you want it and it is medically useful. A first appointment can be a conversation only.
  • Confidentiality. What we discuss stays confidential — including towards your parents, as far as the law allows.

Topics in the teen gynecology consultation

Common topics in the teen gynecology consultation:

  • Cycle. First period, irregular cycles, pain, questions about tracking.
  • Contraception. Which methods exist, what fits at which life stage. Details on our contraception advice page.
  • Sex education and physical changes. What happens during puberty, what is normal, what to look out for.
  • HPV vaccination. Information about the recommended vaccination in this age group. Details on our HPV vaccination page.

For young patients with cycle irregularities we deliberately hold back on extensive diagnostics. Cycle variations during puberty and adolescence can initially be normal. We want to avoid a premature diagnosis — for example a PCOS label — and place the picture carefully. More on our PCOS page.

Our scope: patients under 14 are seen only in the company of a legal guardian. Surgical procedures or extended diagnostics in minor patients are arranged only with a clear medical indication. For suspected diagnoses that require pediatric or pediatric/adolescent gynecological co-care, we refer to the specialized pediatric and adolescent gynecology units at the university hospitals in Düsseldorf or Cologne.

In the teen consultation it is not about examinations — it is first about trust, education and the good feeling that you can ask anything.

When is the teen gynecology consultation worthwhile?

An appointment in the teen gynecology consultation makes sense if:

  • you would like to see a gynecologist for the first time,
  • you have questions about your cycle — first period, pain or irregularities,
  • you would like information about contraception,
  • you would like to discuss physical changes and sex-education topics,
  • you would like information about HPV vaccination.

You do not need a specific reason to come. Wanting a conversation is enough — we work out the rest together.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about teen gynecology

No. A physical examination is performed only if you want it and it is medically useful. A first appointment can be a conversation only — about your cycle, about contraception, or about topics on your mind.

Of course. You are welcome to bring a companion — a friend, a parent, a person you trust. You can also decide whether the companion stays in the waiting area or comes into the treatment room with you.

What we discuss stays confidential — including towards your parents, as far as the law allows. From a certain age and with sufficient maturity to consent, you are considered able to decide for yourself. If something would still need to be discussed with parents, we clarify that with you in advance.

There is no fixed minimum age. Patients under 14 are seen only in the company of a legal guardian. From 14 onwards we decide individually whether an appointment alone or with company makes sense.

The medical consultation and any necessary examinations are covered by German statutory health insurance with your insurance card. Which services make sense for you, we discuss transparently in advance.

Just say so. You set the pace of the conversation. If you need a break, want to stop, or want to discuss only part of a topic, that is always fine.
